The Socialite’s Guide to Death and Dating (A Pinnacle Hotel Mystery)
Welcome to The Socialite’s Guide to Death and Dating. Evelyn Murphy is back with her new job as the party planner at the Pinnacle Hotel, owned by her father. At her first major event, a fundraiser for the mayor, a judge is found dead in the parking garage with a woman in the trunk. Not long after that, Evelyn’s own father is attacked in the hotel, with a maid found dead nearby. Evelyn is good at finding things, especially killers, so she sets out to find this one before anyone else gets hurt. But she’s going to look good doing it.
I’ve never really been terribly interested in the 50s or 60s, but the author does a great job making the era come to life. Evelyn is a great character, capable of being both smart and ditzy when the need arises, and while she is spoiled, she is still capable of being a genuinely good human being. If you haven’t read the first installment in the series, I highly recommend you do and then pick up this one as well. I look forward to seeing how Evelyn and Hodgson solve her mother’s murder in the next one.
