The Third Grave: A Riveting New Thriller (Pierce Reed/Nikki Gillette)
The Third Grave follows journalist Nikki Gillette as she uncovers the mystery behind the disappearance of three young girls many years ago. Career criminal Bronco Cravens finds the skeletons of what looks to be two girls buried deep in the basement of Beaumont Mansion. He was searching for hidden jewels but freaks out when he discovers the two bodies. The bodies are identified as the Duval sisters, Holly and Poppy. The thing is, there is one more grave next to the skeletons. Where is the third sister, Rose? As Nikki investigates, getting herself into trouble and causing tragedy along the way, she learns that everyone has secrets.
I enjoyed reading The Third Grave and found the story to be engaging from start to finish. Although the story was good, Nikki herself was a bit irritating because she was selfish in so many ways. Being married to the lead investigator on the police force, Pierce Reed, Nikki badgers him throughout the book, even after she causes the death of his longtime partner, Sylvie. Lisa Jackson does a fantastic job of keeping her readers guessing and throwing in a great twist at the end.
