Flora, Pam, Margot, and Dot are The Wildling Sisters. They come to Applecote Manor in the summer of 1959 to be with their aunt and uncle while their mom goes to work in Morocco. Everywhere they look there are traces of their cousin Audrey, who disappeared five years earlier. Since she was the one closest to her, Margot is drawn into the mystery and longs to discover the truth. Fifty years later, Jessie moves into Applecote Manor with her husband, daughter, and step-daughter. She has a very precarious relationship with her step-daughter and hopes this move will help their relationship grow. They are both equally drawn to the mystery of what happened to Audrey and the mysterious woman who seems to be connected to their home. Relationships will be tested both then and now, and only time will tell if they can withstand the strain.

This book was so-so for me. I didn’t find it very enthralling, and it wasn’t much of a mystery. It seemed like more of a drama than anything else. The main focus is on the relationship of the four sisters and then of Jessie and her step-daughter. That is a lot of women with a lot of emotions. It was not the worst book I’ve ever read, but I certainly wouldn’t call it spellbinding. None of the characters really had any depth, and the ending wasn’t much of a surprise or even really satisfying. If you enjoy relationship drama without much else in the way of substance, then I think you will like this book. However, I thought it was going to be more of a mystery/thriller, so I was a bit disappointed. If you have nothing better to do or you’ve read everything else good out there, then this can fill your time while you wait for your favorite author to write their next book. That is the best recommendation I can give; it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
