This is Our Story
Kate Marino is working during her senior year at the District Attorney’s office. Her hum-drum job gets a lot more interesting when the man she’s working for gets the case of the River Point Boys, a group of boys who have gained notoriety after one of their friends died during a hunting trip. The kill shot was fired by one of the River Point Boys, but no one will own up to it, and the boys’ rich fathers are going to work as hard as they can to let all of the boys off scot-free. But Kate’s boss Mr. Stone wants to win this case and prove himself, and Kate knew the boy who died—they’re not going to let the case go easily.
Kate’s narration, interspersed with first-person narration from the unidentified killer, makes for a page-turning account of a personal and legal drama. The danger and mystery are balanced with the relatable emotional dramas of high school students, and Kate’s character is strong, smart, and passionate. Ashley Elston’s clever integration of police interview transcripts makes Kate’s work in a legal office engaging, and the twists and turns as the case develops make this novel a fast read.
