Three Debts Paid: A Daniel Pitt Novel
Three Debts Paid is the first Daniel Pitt novel I have read from author Anne Perry. Daniel Pitt is an attorney who works for the first of fford Croft and Gibson. He is hired by one of his old professors, Professor Nicholas Wolford, to defend Wolford in a case that involves plagiarism and a punch that landed the other guy, Tolliver, with a bloody face and needing dental work. Wolford is a very unsettling character with a short fuse. Daniel agrees to take his case. The second storyline in the book is that of three people who end up on the Medical Examiner’s table. Miriam fford Croft, daughter of Marcus fford Croft, and love interest of Daniel Pitt has been training under Medical Examiner Dr. Evelyn Hall to work with the bodies that arrive at the morgue.
Overall, this book had a Sherlock Holmes feel to it. There was a lot of bantering back and forth between the characters. The story went back and forth between Daniel’s case and what Miriam and Eve were doing, however, there is a neat twist at the end that brings everything together. This book is witty, engaging, and was a pleasure to read.
