Wastelands: The New Apocalypse
Over the last five or ten years, dystopian settings have been overdone in YA and adult fiction to the point of nigh-unbearable cliche. The bleak locales, the gritty characters, the gut-wrenching decisions… they’ve all lost a little something due to oversaturation, haven’t they?
It would be easy for one to conclude that the genre was dried up, bereft of new twists or intriguing stories waiting to be told. That would have been my conclusion, honestly… and I would’ve been wrong.
Because Wastelands: The New Apocalypse is jam-packed with engaging characters, unexpected situations, dystopias you haven’t yet seen, and more. Bringing together some of the most creative minds in fantasy — Richard Kadrey, Tananarive Due, and Seanan McGuire among them — these stories offer horrific new wonders and characters both sinister and inspiring to connect with.
From trying to prevent extinctions in a world where the rules have changed to trying to find humor after the world has ended, from bringing hope with a post-apocalyptic game show to saving innocent kittens from a madman, these are fresh takes on what it means to be human, what it means to stay human, and what it means to save the world.
