We Knew All Along
We Knew All Along started out with a fantastic story and interesting, detailed characters. The main character, Jewelann, is at her high school reunion and sees “the one who got away,” Christian Campbell. Jewelann dressed to the nines for this event just in case this happened. She finds herself and two high school friends, Lisa and Beth, up in C.C.’s hotel room after the reunion. After kissing C.C., she realizes this is a mistake and goes home full of guilt. There are several storylines going on all at once, including her son Eli’s PTSD after a neighborhood boy went missing, her husband, whom she claims to love but whom she is also afraid of because he makes all the money, and of course, her past with C.C.. The story goes well until it becomes messy and rather unbelievable. There is no real reason for Jewelann not to leave her controlling husband, and she thinks he is having an affair which is a storyline that never really gets resolved. The ending to this story could have been so much better. The twists and turns were unrealistic, and it was as if the author just wanted to shock her readers instead of giving them a solid, good ending. Skip this one if you’re into great domestic thrillers.
