We Were Made For Each Other!
This translated Chinese children’s story tells the tale of a cute chubby pig named Little Sun and his friends Little Mouse and Little Rabbit. Dancing and prancing throughout the beautifully illustrated pages, Little Sun relates how he occasionally is quiet, but he loves to draw, he shares his toys, and has lots of friends, but sometimes he does feel lonely. Pig and his friends engage in several activities together, each of which posits a lesson to be learned. The wonderfully soft colored drawings perfectly match the text, and the child could pick up a story from the pictures while it would be helpful for an adult to clarify the thought enmeshed in the words. Unfortunately, sometimes the text, while trying to rhyme, sounds rather stilted, which may be due to the rendition between languages. Several of the intended teachings may be beyond the intended age level grasp. It can also be found on The Secret Mountain website as an audio picture book pleasantly read by Julie Nesrallah. It is a 20-minute recording with musical signals informing the reader when to turn the page. While it’s nice to have the audio option, I think it preferable to have the listener embraced by a live companion reader.
