New York is considered by many to be the financial and cultural capital of the United States. It is certainly the largest urban area in terms of population and where a good portion of our most famed writers have lived. In this large reference work we explore New York through quotes. Some quotes are long selections, sometimes in relation to various events, places, or subjects; but most quotes are fairly short – a sentence or two.

All of the quotes stretch over the history of New York. The book is split up into different chapters with each chapter focusing on quotes about that subject. Whether it is about Harlem, the World Trade Center, or drugs, New York comes to life through the people that wrote about it – either in novels, newspaper articles, magazines, etc. This is like a coffee table book – something that you own and occasionally consult to find that perfect quote for a party to look smart – it is not something you sit down and read all the way through. However, it is excellent reference material and it helps bring to life one of the great cities of the world.
