She seemed to be happy and have the perfect life with her husband, Marc, and their two daughters. Then one day she goes missing. Marc continues to hold onto hope that she will come back or be found. Even when the police find some bloody clothing of hers near the river, he can’t give up. But days turn into weeks, which turn into months, until she’s been missing for over a year. Marc is slowly moving on when he begins to find things that tell him a different story about his wife. He follows those breadcrumbs, hoping for some kind of closure, but never expects things to come to the shocking conclusion they do.

This was a hard book for me to read. I guessed what was going on early on, but at the same time, I was super confused by the plot. Marc is probably the only likable character in the whole book; perhaps the author planned it that way. I can honestly say this goes in my top ten of weirdest stories I’ve ever read. I have to give some credit to the author in that this plot is way different than anything I’ve ever come across. I wouldn’t say this book is a thriller, as it is marketed to be. It does keep you turning the pages, though, as you try to make some sense of what is happening to the characters. Most of the story is told from Alexandra’s point of view, either from what happened in the past or how she thinks her family is coping with her disappearance. I found it difficult to identify with her.

I can’t say that I would recommend this unless you really enjoy being confused or you are a huge fan of performance art. Just be prepared for weirdness.
