The Big Kahuna (Fox and O’Hare)

The Big Kahuna can be described as a cheesy, unrealistic action-adventure. In it, the two main characters, Kate and Nick, are hired to find an AI specialist nicknamed the Kahuna. While looking for him on the Hawaiian Islands, they go through a sort of banter back and forth, which reads as a love-hate relationship. After all, Kate is an FBI agent, and Nick is a world-class con artist hired by the government in exchange for his freedom.

The storyline was fun, as were the characters. There’s Harrison, the Kahuna’s surfer dude son, Vicky, the wife who wouldn’t mind if the Kahuna ends up dead because she wants the money, Larry, Vicky’s oddball lawyer and photographer, and Olga, one of the Kahuna’s business partners who also wouldn’t mind if he showed up dead.

Overall, this is like one big game of Where In The World is Carmen San Diego. There are bits of military danger, protesters, thugs, international crime, and AI all thrown into one book. The main characters go on a wild goose chase to find the Kahuna as well as the person, or people, he is hiding from. This is an easy read with an easy storyline that is pretty much only surface deep.
