4th Rock from the Sun: The Story of Mars
Mars is a sibling of Earths. It not only accompanies our planet on its journey through the stars, but it reflects so much of human history and interest right back at us. From our stories of laser-blasting invaders and multi-armed aliens, to our hopes for colonization and exploration, it has always been right there with us.
4th Rock from the Sun provides an in-depth look at all things Mars, from mythology and our earliest assumptions about life there to the latest round of plans for human visitation. It’s absolutely amazing when you consider how intricately the red planet is woven into our culture, from candy bars to Marvin the Martian.
Although the science in this book is topnotch, this is really more of a history book than a scientific text. The story of Mars goes far beyond the actual science, and Jenner cleverly covers everything from its creation to its possible demise in engaging Earth-centric fashion. 4th Rock from the Sun is great fun, a mix of history and pop culture that reveals just how deep the fascination with our curious red sibling goes.
