Stephen Graham Jones is back with the second installment in the Indian Lake Trilogy, and if you the thought the body count was high in My Heart is a Chainsaw, wait till you get a load of Don’t Fear the Reaper.

Jade Daniels is finally back in Prufrock after serving some time in various institutions, but before she can even get comfortable, things take a turn from boring to outright terrible. It’s December and one of the worst Idaho blizzards is slamming into the town. It causes a bad accident and a certain horrific serial killer known as Dark Mills South to break free, take care of his captors, and then make his way into Prufrock.

Teens start turning up dead in horrific ways, specifically emulate garish death scenes from known slasher films. Jade and some other familiar characters start discovering the bloody wreckages and know things are very bad once again in Prufrock. They also know they’re not getting any outside help until the storm abates. It’s up to them to survive and try and stop this killer.

Sequels are hard to do, and Jones does a fantastic job of making Don’t Fear the Reaper just as good as its predecessor but in a completely new way. Fans will be just as thrilled with this book and then eagerly awaiting the trilogy’s conclusion.
