This is not just a list of recipes, but rather a gentle introduction to the concept of a ketogenic diet. It claims to offer plant based, low carb, high-fat recipes. It is NOT a vegetarian recipe book. There are salmon, shrimp, chicken, and egg recipes. However, most of the formulas herein are actually plant based, like Moroccan Cauliflower Pot Roast. Their claim is that you will not notice the absence of meat because of robust spicing.
The Healing Kitchen folk are careful, suggesting a gradual immersion in the keto lifestyle and offering comfort in many ways. For example, they point out that the dreaded ‘keto breath’ will probably fade away in a few weeks. They do suggest that this regimen is not for those who are pregnant or lactating, or for folks on an insulin routine. They also indicate that people using oral hypoglycemic agents for types I or 2 diabetes should shy away. (Here I must voice some disagreement, as I’ve used a ketogenic diet quite happily whilst using metformin).
