History teacher Francis “Frenchy” Degnan has been obsessed with the Sword of Goliath for many years now, having even once written a book showcasing his theories on where it might be hidden. That book was ridiculed for many years, but now it seems that someone is finally taking Frenchy’’s ideas seriously. Suddenly, the U.S. government has declared him a fugitive, and the Prime Minister of Israel supposedly wants to hire him for the knowledge he possesses, while a militant group is determined to find the ancient artifact for their own purposes. Now, Frenchy, the daughter of his former mentor and one of his high school students, have to find the Sword of Goliath before those in control get tired of waiting and kill them all.

Erich B. Sekel’’s novel King David’s Legacy is a fun, modern-day treasure hunt of a thriller, with a plot that is certain to appeal to readers who enjoy a race-against-time search for historical artifacts. The overall story is quite enjoyable, with a relatively fun, albeit sometimes awkward and crude, main character and plenty of historical facts sprinkled liberally through certain sections. Student Ricky adds some fun comic relief, while sassy Sarah keeps Frenchy inspired to move past his own sense of inadequacy on many occasions and do what he’s always dreamed of doing. The romance between Frenchy and Sarah is both predictable and a bit stilted, but this doesn’’t detract from the novel. Indeed, the only real mark this book has against it is that it is in need of a skilled copy editor; the use of incorrect words and poorly punctuated sentences throughout might be distracting to some readers. Overall, however, King David’’s Legacy is a fun read that will keep many readers hooked until the very end.
