Museum Mystery Squad and the Case of the Hidden Hieroglyphics

The Museum Mystery Squad is back again in their second adventure. This time, they’re asked to take a look at a mummy in the museum’s Egyptian Zone. A brand new panel of hieroglyphics has been revealed on the sarcophagus of Pharaoh Shaneb. A bizarre Egypt expert, Peter Gyptex, is on hand for this discovery, but will anyone be able to decipher what the strange set of hieroglyphics means?

This delightfully quirky cast of kids is back to solve another museum mystery. The format of the book is excellent and attention-grabbing, especially for reluctant readers. There are pages of notes, diary entries, puzzles, and interesting Ancient-Egypt facts. There is a healthy dose of humor and sarcasm that keeps the story moving. There are some Scottish phrases, such as “moggy,” which are fun to look up. (It means “cat.”) But besides a few British spellings and very few words as mentioned above, there is nothing to keep any reader from really diving in and enjoying this book. It’s utterly unique and fun and has become an instant favorite in my household. We’re looking forward to the next Museum Mystery Squad adventures!
