The Bookshop of Yesterdays
The Bookshop of Yesterdays charts the journey of a woman named Miranda, that begins when Miranda’s estranged Uncle Billy dies suddenly and leaves Miranda his bookstore—Prospero Books. Prospero Books holds some of Miranda’s fondest childhood memories of her uncle, but, upon inheriting the store, Miranda comes to discover that the bookstore contains the answers she has always desired about her uncle, his past, and the cause of his sudden estrangement from her family. Miranda and her uncle were bonded by Prospero Books and their love of scavenger hunts. Billy leaves one final scavenger hunt that defines Miranda’s journey to uncover Billy’s past.
This book was an incredible read, I would especially recommend it to anyone who fancies themselves a book lover. The story of Miranda’s journey is intimately interwoven with lessons and stories from classic and popular literature, and the bookstore setting is dreamy and enviable for anyone who spends their free time inhabiting bookstores and absorbing books and copious amounts of coffee. The Bookshop of Yesterdays is Amy Meyerson’s first novel, and she has truly knocked this one out of the park. I can’t wait to see what comes next for this author.
