Waiting for Sophie
Liam has been waiting and waiting for what seems to him a very long time for his new little sister to be born. At last that day has arrived. Liam spends the day with his Nana-Downstairs, and they do some very silly things while waiting. Finally, Liam’s parents arrive with baby Sophie. Liam loves his little sister and tries to teach her words and wants to play with her, but babies need time to grow and learn. Liam doesn’t have much patience with waiting and waiting again, this time for his sister to grow enough to play and talk. Liam even builds a growing machine for Sophie, but nothing works except time.
Author Sarah Ellis has written a sweet story that will help youngsters understand the process of becoming an older sibling and how much patience is needed. This is not a typical picture book but is more like an early reader with quite a bit of text.
The soft, charming illustrations by Carmen Mok complete the story and will keep youngsters engaged. This will probably work best as a read-aloud for four- to six-year-olds, but older kids will be able to read it on their own.
