Evangeline Hussey arrives in Nantucket a young woman and marries the owner of the Try Pots Inn. She has the ability to see recent memories of those around her and even reshape them if needed. One day, she sees her husband die at sea. In order not to lose her inn, she reshapes the memories of all those around her. Life goes on until a man called Ishmael shows up searching for a whaling ship to sign onto. Evangeline’s choices will affect the next three generations of women over the Wild and Distant Seas.

The cover of this book is beautiful and it is also beautifully written. I’ve read Moby Dick, but not often enough that I more than likely missed many tie-ins. This tale is completely about a woman mentioned in that novel, although she isn’t a main character. The gifts each of the women possessed were an interesting touch. The path that their lives took based on one woman’s choices was complicated and hard, but it was fascinating how it all came full circle. If you enjoyed Moby Dick or just historical fiction in general, you’ll want to pick up this book and get immersed in the drama.
