Zenith
Androma Racella (aka The Bloody Baroness) has been on the run from her own planet for several years. Now she and her all-girl crew are the terrors of the galaxy. However, when she is offered the opportunity to have her criminal record cleared in exchange for completing a dangerous, classified mission, she finds it hard to say no. She just never imagined that taking on the job might also mean taking on the fate of the galaxy itself.
Zenith has a fantastic premise, featuring a crew of highly skilled female space pirates on ostensibly impossible missions. All of the characters walk a fine line between being ruthless and having enough of a heart that readers will want to cheer them on. However, much of the book is telling rather than showing, and it is difficult to feel that what the authors are clearly trying to convey about the characters is true. Similarly, while the authors try to build up the friendships of the female crew and the complicated romantic relationship between Androma her love interest, the final results are simply lackluster. Zenith has a lot of good ideas, but uneven pacing and shallow characterization may make it difficult for some readers to get invested.
