How to Save a Life tells the story of three people whose lives are forever intertwined after an occurrence on New Year’s Eve in 1999. Kerry and Tim have been friends for what seems like forever. They are both getting ready to apply to medical school. Joel, a star football player, is the guy who every guy wants to be and every girl wants to be with, including Kerry. During a pickup football game, Joel drops in the middle of the field. Kerry ends up saving his life using CPR; however, Tim ends up getting most of the credit. Joel has an internal defibrillator put in and is told he cannot play football anymore. As the characters face the ups and downs of life, they all wonder what would have happened if Joel’s life had not been saved that day.

This is a fantastic read that will make its readers appreciate life a little more. The author, Eva Carter, was involved in saving someone’s life and inserts advice into the book on how to save a person’s life in an emergency situation. The characters all have some very difficult decisions to make throughout the book, and although the book is quite long, it will hold your attention from cover to cover.
