My Heart Is a Chainsaw
My Heart Is a Chainsaw is the story of Jade’s life. Her life revolves around her love of 1980s slasher films as she tries to survive high school in Proofrock, Idaho. Bodies are beginning to show up all over town, with people dying in horrific ways. It seems as if Jade’s dream has finally come true: her life has become a slasher film. Putting all of her knowledge to good use, Jade finds the perfect final girl and attempts to train her to stop the killer as only the final girl can. However, Jade might be more like the final girl than she realizes and it might be up to her to save the town she doesn’t really care for.
If you enjoy 1980s slasher films, then more than likely you will enjoy this. I’m not quite sure what to make of it. There are a lot of trigger warnings for this book. Graphic violence and rape storylines abound, which isn’t that unusual for a slasher, just be forewarned. Jade was a complex and interesting character who you can’t help rooting for. That being said, the plot was hard to follow and had a lot of holes, which was disappointing.
