New Landscaping Ideas that Work
This is such a beautiful book that you feel like walking through many of the featured gardens or meditating in a quiet spot in a garden chair. New Landscaping Ideas that Work by Julie Moir Messervy is mostly color illustrations of gardens and landscapes of a large variety. Short texts explain everything you need to know about a specific subject Messervy describes—they are succinct and to the point. But if you are looking for landscaping designs, the photo illustrations will be your main guide. Seven chapters provide different areas of landscaping, like “Spaces that Work;” “Walls, Fences and Hedges;” “Paths and Walkways;” and “Details in the Landscape” (such as frames and focal points). Even if you are not within the budget to copy most of the ideas around your home, you are likely to get some notion of what you can do to liven up your backyard or front yard. Yes, most of these illustrations were taken from the outdoors of at least moderate wealth. Messervy gives you even more in her “Essentials,” like paving options, fences or wall material, even ideas for potting sheds. The book is very complete and comprehensive on landscaping.
