Kaia lost both parents just over a year ago in a violent shootout and has been living with family friends. She is almost convinced her parents are actually, truly dead until an assassin shows up at her door, ready to beat her senseless for information about her mother’s whereabouts. When her boyfriend, Oliver, shows up, who knows nothing, she surprises him (understatement) and manages to free them both and drive through the streets to get away. He’s surprised, she’s on the run, and maybe, just maybe, her mom, maybe even her dad, are still alive. And it seems that both she and Oliver were hiding some pretty hefty secrets. But if she doesn’t stop finding the hitmen out to get her, she may not get the reunion she’s dreamed about. The tone of this life-and-death cat-and-mouse game is light – readers won’t forget the seriousness Kaia finds herself in, but she’s just so fun to hang with. Curse words fly out of her mouth at a whim, but they are so perfectly and lovably her. Readers who enjoyed The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes may enjoy this more light-hearted mystery that promises a fun, fast read.
