She Lies Close
Five-year-old Ava has been missing for six months. No one says it out loud, but everyone is pretty sure she was murdered. Especially Grace, who just bought the house next door to the only suspect in the case. Grace has two children of her own and hardly ever sleeps. This insomnia causes her to stay up and worry about everything in the universe. She can’t let this case go. She knows deep down that “she lies close.” However, her lack of sleep and hallucinations are not helping the matter. All she can be sure of is how much she loves her children and she will do whatever it takes to protect them.
I agree with the statement that this author has a similar style to Gillian Flynn. Not only are their writing styles the same, but they also both write stories with unlikeable characters. I know that people love Gillian Flynn and so I think that if you do, you will love this book as well. I personally do not like either. Grace was a disaster. I understand she loves her children, but all I could think was I was glad my children don’t go to the preschool she teaches at. I don’t find the appeal of hot mess characters, and I was longing for someone more along the lines of Shana Merchant or Rachel Marin. I would recommend those books instead.
