There is nothing like going back to the town where family lived but won’t speak about. When their mother is placed in rehab, Ellery and Ezra are sent back to Echo Ridge where their mother grew up but couldn’t wait to leave. It is the setting for her mother’s twin sister’s death, and again many years later, for the death of a high school Homecoming Queen candidate. It seems there may be another murder in the works as threats pop up around town against the latest Homecoming Court and a girl goes missing. With Ellery’s interest in crime and Ezra’s ability to rein her in, they may together stop the next death, if they can just make the puzzle pieces fit.

Told in alternating chapters by Ellery and Ezra, the tale follows the twins as they return to the town of their mother’s childhood, cut short by the death of her twin sister. Their amateur sleuthing keeps the reader going in circles, not guessing the culprit until the very end. While not as explosive as her first book, One of Us is Lying, Two Can Keep a Secret places McManus with the likes of E. Lockhart and Jennifer Lynn Barnes.
