The world is full of strange supernatural forces. It is haunted, tormented, god-riddled, and full of miracles. On one side, there are the Droods, self-appointed magical policemen. On the other, there is the Nightside, where all choices are possible. For the first time in history, the Nightside’s borders have expanded, and the Droods feel compelled to rein in a land with no reins. As legends meet and battle lines are drawn, who will triumph? Who will survive?

Night Fall is the grand finale in Simon R. Green’s long-running supernatural universe, and it’s a crossover fan’s wet dream. Two pairs of unlikely saviors — John Taylor and Shotgun Suzie, Eddie Drood and Molly Metcalf — must find a way to keep ancient forces from ripping the world to pieces.

Green clearly had a blast with this one, offering in-jokes to previous adventures, cameos galore, and fantasy matchups to whet any fan’s appetite. But he also tells a wonderful story about what happens when loyalty crashes headlong into freedom of choice, and as conclusions go, you can’t get much more epic than this.

I’m sad to say goodbye to the Nightside, the Droods, and more, but I’m also immensely excited to see what Green conjures up next.
