The Devil’s Trill: The Ladies Bristol Occult Detective Series Book One
A pair of well-to-do ladies, both disillusioned by their husbands’ wandering eyes (and other parts), plot to seduce a visiting violinist as revenge. But when they meet the curious man and his treasured instrument, they’re horrified to discover he is in league with dark forces. Now the two of them must stop him before other innocents suffer, but the vampiric fiend seems to know their secrets. What will be revealed when their final showdown draws near?
The Devil’s Trill is the first installment in a new supernatural crime series, with Sarah and Tabitha serving as an unlucky duo of investigators, though admittedly they feel more like Buffy and Willow than Holmes and Watson.
The story moves at a brisk clip, so much so that it’s hard to form a full opinion of the series’s potential. Sarah and Tabitha are intriguing enough, but by cramming so much into the first book, the reader spends a lot of time keeping up with the narrative rather than being swept along by it.
That being said, the sinister world Brazos has only hinted at thus far is very intriguing, and I definitely want to see where the duo’s next adventure takes them.
